Social Listening

Social Listening- I put this off all weekend and finally I thought to myself “JUST DO IT”! I will be analyzing Nike’s social media. I have always been a large supporter of Nike and thought it was cool Phil Knight, the founder of Nike, was born and raised in Oregon; just like me! I grew up in Autzen Stadium always hearing his name, mentioning his generous help for the University of Oregon. Everyone I know loves Nike. All throughout high school my friends and I were always rocking our white Air Force 1’s. I remember whenever we would hang out in large groups everyone would throw their shoes off at the door. And by the time you were ready to leave it wasn’t always easy finding your shoes.  Nike isn’t known for just their Air Force 1’s, although they are popular. They are known for their athletic clothing, shoes and lifestyle wear. Nike’s value proposition is to make people feel confident as well as provide self-assurance, achievement, willpower and effort. “Marketing in the News”

When taking a look on Market Dive, my eyes immediately were drawn to the article “Tinder enlists ‘Mean Girls’ actor to help users dodge toxicity”. Mean Girls is one of my favorite movies! I have watched it too many times to count. The actor Jonathan Bennett who plays Aaron Samuels is the main character's crush in the show. The article shows a unique marketing approach to the iconic line “What day is it?” (said by Aaron) with response “October 3rd”. But has a different spin on the meaning of this day.  October 3rd is also World Romance Scam Prevention Day, who knew! The article then goes into detail about love bombers, money seekers, and postures. Explaining what kind of people to avoid when on dating apps. The Value Proposition of Tinder’s was intended for people to create positive new connections through a user-friendly platform. Jonathan speaks about the ways not to use their app.  The timing of this article couldn’t have been better.  Even though Mean Girls came out in 2004, it

Emma Hawkins

Hi everyone! My name is Emma Hawkins. I was born and raised in the Willamette Valley and I love it here! This is my second year at LBCC, which means I have most of my prerequisites out of the way, and can start focusing on classes that really interest me. Like Principles of Marketing, which is very fitting for my Marketing degree. This term I am most interested in learning about job opportunities within the Marketing field. I want to learn all aspects of marketing to give me a better understanding of what I think I want to do with my life. Outside of school I like to spend time outdoors! You can often find me on short hikes to pretty waterfalls, go wake surfing with my family, or visiting the coast and watch the waves crash into the shore. I also enjoy hanging out with my friends, cuddling with my cats, and traveling whenever possible!
